Book excerpt/Synopsis: New York Times bestselling author of The Prodigal Prophet and nationally renowned minister Timothy Keller exposes the error of making good things "ultimate" in this book, and shows readers a new path toward a hope that lasts. Success, true love, and the life you've always wanted. Many of us placed our faith in these things, believing they held the key to happiness, but with a sneaking suspicion they might not deliver. No wonder we feel lost, alone, disenchanted, and resentful. There is only one God who can wholly satisfy our cravings—and now is the perfect time to meet Him again, or for the first time. In Counterfeit Gods, Timothy Keller shows how a proper understanding of the Bible reveals the unvarnished truth about societal ideals and our own hearts. This powerful message cements Keller's reputation as a critical thinker and pastor, and comes at a crucial time—for both the faithful and the skeptical.

Download or Read book The Mystery and the Passion written by David G. Buttrick and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-09-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/Synopsis: resurrection and death in order to connect modern preaching with the excitement of a changed world. ÒAlthough we may be jaded by sermons that chase Bible verses tediously for twenty minutes or more, original listeners heard the gospel as a huge excitementÉThe apostles announced a changed world. The human world, they claimed, had begun all over again; we are living now in a 'new creation.' They invited startled listeners to join God's new humanity.Ó --From the Introduction Buttrick's teatment is no romanticizing of early Christianity. The church then was as dismaying as it is now. Instead, this book focuses on the early Christian sense that they had passed from death to new life--a reversal that began with Jesus' resurrection, then explored his passion, and finally his ministry and life. This book carefully examines the Gospel traditions so that this great reversal can be captured in Christian theology and proclamation.

Book excerpt/Synopsis: When it comes to having a desire to see things change, it is obvious that most Christians are ready for it! The problem is that churches have tried every program available, and yet they still feel that there is something missing from their ministry. This book takes a fresh look at ministry and challenges us to consider that we may have actually left God out of the ministry equation, by not realizing how desperately we need for God's Spirit to set us on "fire!" Take a journey through the Bible and discover for yourself, how God's fire is present when God is on the move! Discover how God's fire reveals his character as well as our calling to be transformed into the image of Christ! You will also discover how being one of God's Fire Starters can be one of the most exciting adventures of anyone's life! Donald A. Broadwater was born in Roanoke, Virginia and spent most of his early life growing up around the Blue Ridge Mountains. He graduated from Covenant College and Westminster Theological Seminary, and for the past three decades, Don and his family have been on an adventure that has taken them from America to Australia. He is married to Gloria and has two grown children from their 37-year marriage. God has unfolded a unique ministry of discipleship that has sought to encourage people to take their next step on a Journey in Jesus. This ministry is needed because our journeys are as unique as God who is fashioning them for us. He has also spoken for church camps and seminars, which have included the international conference, "Fire on the Mountain," on Mt. Tambourine in Queensland, Australia. Contact him at www.journeyinjesus.com for additional information or for scheduling seminars for your ministry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/Synopsis: This second volume contains Perkins’s Commentary on Galatians . Perkins preached on Galatians each Lord’s Day for over three years. Ralph Cudworth obtained Perkins’s handwritten notes and edited them for publication. Because Perkins did not complete the commentary, Cudworth supplemented the manuscript with his own comments on chapter 6. This commentary of Perkins and Cudworth on Galatians first appeared in print in 1604, two years after Perkins’s death. Perkins’s other writings had already begun to be gathered and published. When the three-volume edition of his collected works first appeared, Galatians occupied over 320 large folio pages in the second volume (1609). It continued to appear as a part of several editions of the Works through their final 1635 reprint. Evidently, interest in the commentary warranted its publication again as a separate volume in 1617. Following the model taught in his treatise The Art of Prophesying , Perkins’s pattern in commenting on Galatians is to explain the text, deduce a few points of doctrine from it, answer objections raised against the doctrine, and then give practical uses of what the passage teaches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/Synopsis: There are many devotional books available containing brief, daily inspirations that benefit all who read them. This book is different in two respects. The first is obvious: it contains two readings per day—732 in all. The second, more important difference is that the author wanted to do more than offer inspiration; this would make this book no different than so many others. The messages in the book are study sketches in that the content is not only inspirational, but also educational, challenging, and encouraging. Most of these writings were based on author Michael J. Akers’s teaching of adult Bible studies for more than thirty years and learning what really brought adults to want to deepen their knowledge and application of the Word of God.

This book was released on 2004-08 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/Synopsis: This work is written with a law enforcement officer?s investigative mindset and from the perspective of a prisoner.I discovered through a survey of Christian bookstores that no books were exclusively on or about repentance, but most only touched on the topic. The only author who had anything to say about repentance beyond a mere mention was Charles G. Finney in Finney?s Systematic Theology. This 600-page work transformed my thinking and influenced my investigation. This book discusses spiritual leadership without bashing any spiritual leader. It points out carnality without castigating any particular ministry or denomination. Hundreds of illustrations will familiarize the reader with revelations about repentance and carnality. These illustrations, like parables, contain revolutionary truths that are true to Scripture, reason, and life, so that Repentance: The Doctrine of God may become one harmonious revelation!Warning: As you read this book, you will encounter deep-seated carnality residing within the blackened depths of your soul, and it will not want to be exposed! But take heart?Almighty God will accompany you on this journey for the complete regeneration of your soul.
